In-ear canal headphones are a fantastic innovation. They allow you to completely isolate yourself from the external world, and to immerse yourself into the music with a sound quality that is simply amazing.
However, first time users of in-ear headphones sometimes find it difficult to properly wear their earphones. In order to obtain the best performance with in-ear canal headphones it's very important to wear them correctly. Eartips must achieve a seal right inside the ear canal. Without a proper seal, audio fidelity will be compromised, especially in the basses. A good seal is also vital for obtaining the best noise isolation.
First of all you should select the eartip that you think will work best. People ear canals have a different shapes and sizes, so you may want to try a few eartips of different sizes and materials, before you take a final decision on which one works best for you.
Wearing Earphones
Here's a quick step by step guide on how to wear earphones easily:
- Reach around over your head with your left arm and grab the top of your right ear with your left hand.
- Gently pull up and back on top of the ear that you grabbed. This straights the ear canal, for easy insertion.
- Open your mouth slightly in order to better open your ear canal.
- Be sure to reach for the right side eartip, and with your right hand insert the eartip into the ear canal. During the insertion twist the eartip gently. When properly inserted you'll notice a reduction of external noise.
- If needed, after insertion adjust the eartip by slightly rotating it in order to obtain the proper seal.
- If your earphones are designed to be worn with cable pointing upwards, run the cable up and around the back of your ears.
- Repeat the process with your left ear.
Voila! Welcome to the magical world of noise isolated music enjoyment.
With foam eartips there's an even simpler method: just compress the foam with your fingers and insert the eartip in your ear. Then wait a few seconds, till the foam recovers and seals the eartip onto the ear canal.
